How to write love in cursive by hand
Love packs three different join types into four letters, which is exactly why teachers use it as a drill word:
- L opens with the tall loop — capital or lowercase, it sets the slant for the whole word.
- o → v is a bridge-to-bridge join: the o hands over at the midline, and the v receives it high and also ends high. This double-bridge is the rarest join in English — love is one of the few common words that has it.
- v → e: because the v ends at the midline, the e hangs from the top and its loop flattens — the squashed e that beginners think is a mistake is actually correct here.

Why does the e in love look squashed?
Because the v before it is a bridge letter ending at the midline — the e hangs from the top and its loop compresses. That flattened e is the correct traditional form, not an error.
Is cursive love a good first tattoo word?
It’s the classic for a reason: short, meaningful, and genuinely elegant in script. Bring a printed sample of the exact style to your artist — and remember tattoo lettering is drawn, so the artist works from the shape, not the Unicode.
Capital L or lowercase l?
Both are correct. Capital L reads as a statement — stronger for cards and tattoos; lowercase flows quieter inside a sentence.
