How to write a cursive capital L

1. Start with a small loop at the top line.
2. Sweep down and slightly left in one long curve all the way to the baseline.
3. Make a small flat loop sitting on the baseline.
4. Finish with a tail that runs to the right along the baseline.

How to write a lowercase l in cursive

1. From the baseline, swing up and over in a loop that touches the top line.
2. Let the loop cross itself at about the midline.
3. Come straight down to the baseline.
4. Finish with a small upward tail to the right.

Connecting l to other letters

The double l is the classic loop drill: write hello, ball and yellow and check that both loops match in width and slant. Keep the loop slim — a fat l loop is the most common reason cursive writing looks untidy.
