How to write a cursive capital K
- Make a tall downstroke from the top line to the baseline, starting with a small curl.
- From the top line, curve a second stroke in to touch the stem near the midline.
- From that touch point, kick out and down to the baseline, finishing with a tail.
How to write a lowercase k in cursive
- From the baseline, swing an upward loop that touches the top line — the same opening as h.
- Come straight down the loop to the baseline.
- Retrace up to the midline and make a small closed loop that presses against the stem.
- From the loop, kick a short leg down and out to the baseline, and finish with a tail.
Connecting k to other letters
The k lives or dies on its little loop: keep it small, closed and touching the stem. If the loop opens, the letter reads as an h; if it floats away from the stem, it reads as lc. Drill ck — back, luck, kick — the most common k join in English.

What is the difference between cursive k and cursive h?
Both start with the tall loop and downstroke. The h continues into one smooth hump; the k makes a small closed loop against the stem and then kicks a leg out.
Why does my cursive k look like an h?
The little loop has opened into a curve. Pause at the midline, close the loop against the stem, then kick.
