How to write a cursive capital G

  1. Start near the top line and sweep a curve up and over to the left, like the opening of a large C.
  2. Bring the curve down and around, then rise to a narrow point near the top line.
  3. Drop a downstroke to the baseline, finish with a small loop and a tail running right.

How to write a lowercase g in cursive

  1. Make an oval exactly like a cursive a: curve up to the midline, swing counter-clockwise to the baseline and close.
  2. Retrace down the right side of the oval and continue below the baseline into the descender space.
  3. Loop to the left — the same direction as j and y — and swing back up, crossing at the baseline.
  4. Finish with an upward tail to the right.

Connecting g to other letters

G belongs to the left-loop family with j and y; only q swings right. Keep the descender loop narrow and the same depth as your j and y so the line below stays clean. Drill the pair ng — the most common g combination in English — in words like ring and going.

Cursive G questions

Which way does the cursive g loop go?

To the left, matching j and y. If your g loops right, you have written a q.

How deep should the g loop go?

About as far below the baseline as the oval is tall above it — and identical to your j and y loops, so every descender in a line matches.
