Cursive T: Copy and Paste, How to Write It + Free Worksheet

The cursive t breaks two habits from print: it is shorter than the other tall letters, and you do not cross it until the whole word is finished. Copy every cursive t style below, then learn the stroke order and the crossing rule.

How to write a cursive capital T

  1. Draw a gentle wave stroke across the top line — the same cap used for capital F.
  2. From under the middle of the cap, drop a curved downstroke to the baseline, ending in a small curl.
  3. That is the whole letter: unlike F, capital T takes no cross through the stem.

How to write a lowercase t in cursive

  1. From the baseline, draw an upstroke to about three-quarter height — taller than the midline, shorter than a loop letter like l.
  2. Retrace straight back down the same line to the baseline. There is no loop.
  3. Finish with a tail to the right and continue into the next letter.
  4. After you finish writing the whole word, come back and cross the t with one short horizontal stroke.

Connecting t to other letters

If a word has two t’s, as in letter or better, cross them both with a single stroke. Crossing as you go breaks your rhythm and is the number one habit that slows cursive down. The t joins low, so tt, th and tr are worth drilling.

Cursive T questions

Why is the cursive t shorter than l or b?

The retraced stem needs less height than a loop to stay legible, and the lower height leaves room for the crossbar without touching the line above.

When do you cross a cursive t?

After the whole word is written — the same moment you dot your i’s and j’s. One pass for letters, one pass for crosses and dots.
