How to write a cursive capital I
- Start at the baseline and sweep a tall curve up to the top line.
- Loop over to the left and come back down, crossing your upstroke on the way.
- Finish with a small curve at the baseline heading right. Capital I takes no dot.
How to write a lowercase i in cursive
- From the baseline, draw an under-curve up to the midline.
- Retrace straight back down to the baseline.
- Curve into a small tail to the right.
- Dot the i just above the midline — after the whole word is finished.
Connecting i to other letters
Place the dot directly above the stem, close to the midline. High, floating dots drift over neighbouring letters and make in, ni and m hard to distinguish at speed. Drill the pairs in, it and is — three of the most common words in English.
