How to write a cursive capital J
- Start just below the top line with a small upward curve, then loop over the top.
- Sweep a long downstroke past the baseline into the descender space.
- Loop to the left and come back up, crossing at the baseline, and finish with a tail. Capital J is one of the few capitals that dips below the baseline.
How to write a lowercase j in cursive
- From the baseline, draw an under-curve up to the midline — the same start as an i.
- Come straight down past the baseline into the descender space.
- Loop to the left and swing back up, crossing at the baseline.
- Exit with a tail, and add the dot just above the midline after the word is finished.
Connecting j to other letters
The j loop swings left, matching g and y — group them in practice so the motion becomes automatic. Keep the loop narrow to protect the line below, and dot every i and j in one final pass together with your t crosses.
