How to write a cursive capital H

  1. Make a tall downstroke from the top line to the baseline, starting with a small curl at the top.
  2. To its right, draw a second curved downstroke from the top line to the baseline.
  3. Join the two strokes with a small loop across the middle, and finish the second stroke with an exit tail.

How to write a lowercase h in cursive

  1. From the baseline, swing an upward loop that touches the top line.
  2. Come straight down the loop to the baseline.
  3. Without lifting, retrace up to the midline and curve over in a rounded hump.
  4. Bring the hump down to the baseline and finish with a tail to the right.

Connecting h to other letters

The hump of your h should be a twin of your n hump — same width, same height. If they drift apart, words like hen and han become hard to tell apart. Common joins to practise: th, ch, sh and wh, four of the most frequent letter pairs in English.

Cursive H questions

What is the difference between cursive h and cursive k?

They start with the same tall loop, but h continues into one smooth hump while k breaks into a small loop and a kick leg. If your k loses its loop it will read as an h.

Is cursive h a tall letter?

Yes. The loop of the h reaches the top line, the same height as b, f, k and l. The hump only reaches the midline.
