How to write a cursive capital F
- Draw a gentle wave stroke across the top line. This is the cap of the F.
- From under the middle of that cap, drop a downstroke that curves slightly left and ends with a small curl at the baseline.
- Add a short horizontal cross stroke through the middle of the stem, from left to right. The cross is what separates capital F from capital T.
How to write a lowercase f in cursive
- From the baseline, swing an upward loop that touches the top line.
- Come straight down through the midline and the baseline, well into the descender space.
- Loop back and close the bottom loop at the baseline. The top loop opens left; the bottom loop closes on the right.
- Exit with a tail at the baseline to join the next letter.
Connecting f to other letters
Because f owns both the ascender and descender space, keep both loops narrow. A wide bottom loop tangles with the next word line, and a wide top loop crowds letters like l and b beside it. Practise the pair ff, as in coffee and office.

Why does cursive f have two loops?
The top loop replaces the straight stem of a print f and the bottom loop replaces the lifted crossbar: together they let you write the whole letter without lifting the pen, which is the point of cursive.
Does the cursive f go below the line?
Yes. Lowercase cursive f is a full-height letter that also descends below the baseline — the only lowercase letter that does both.
