How to write a cursive capital V
- From the top line, sweep a deep under-curve down to the baseline.
- Curve back up to the top line in one motion — a single rounded valley, never a sharp point.
- Finish with a small side dip at the top right: the bridge stroke.
How to write a lowercase v in cursive
- From the baseline, draw an under-curve up to the midline.
- Come down to the baseline and curve smoothly back up — one rounded valley.
- At the midline, finish with a small side dip pointing right.
- That midline finish is the letter’s identity: the next letter hangs from it.
Connecting v to other letters
V joins from the top, so whatever follows loses its entry stroke: in ve and vi, the e and i hang directly from the bridge. One valley with a bridge is v; two valleys ending on the baseline is u; two valleys with a bridge is w — keep the three sorted and drill very and love.

Cursive V questions
What is the difference between cursive v and cursive u?
U has two valleys and ends with a tail on the baseline. V has one valley and ends with a dip at the midline. Count valleys, check the finish.
Why is cursive v rounded instead of pointed?
A sharp point forces the pen to stop, which breaks the flow cursive exists for. The rounded valley keeps the motion continuous — context and the bridge finish keep it readable.
