How to write a cursive capital B

  1. Make a tall downstroke from the top line to the baseline, starting with a small curl at the top.
  2. From the top of the stem, curve out to the right to form the upper bowl, touching the stem near the midline.
  3. Continue into the lower bowl, closing it at the baseline, and finish with a small loop against the stem.

How to write a lowercase b in cursive

  1. From the baseline, swing an upward loop that touches the top line — the same opening as l.
  2. Come straight down the loop to the baseline.
  3. Curve up and to the right in a narrow under-curve.
  4. Finish with a small side dip at the midline pointing right. That bridge stroke is what separates b from l.

Connecting b to other letters

B is one of the four bridge letters — o, w, v and b — so the letter after it hangs from the midline: in be and by, the e and y lose their usual entry stroke. If your b ends at the baseline instead, readers will see li. Drill be, by and the double b in bubble.

Cursive B questions

What is the difference between cursive b and cursive l?

They begin with the same tall loop. The l finishes with a tail on the baseline; the b adds an under-curve and ends with a small dip at the midline. That midline finish is the whole identity of the b.

Why does my cursive b look like li?

Your final stroke is dropping to the baseline. End the b at the midline with the side dip, and connect the next letter from there.
