How to write happy birthday in cursive by hand

Both words are friendly to beginners — no r, no s — but three joins deserve attention:

  1. The double p in happy: two identical retraced descenders back to back — keep them the same depth, like twin fence posts, and the word instantly looks controlled.
  2. The th in birthday: cross the t only after the whole word is done, and make the t visibly shorter than the h beside it — that height difference is what keeps the pair legible.
  3. The ay endings: both words finish with a y whose loop swings left below the line. Match the two loops in depth and the phrase gains an elegant rhythm.

Write Happy with a capital H (a two-stroke capital — see the capitals chart), lift the pen once between words, and keep a consistent slant across both. New to cursive? The beginner guide covers the strokes in the right order.

Happy birthday in cursive questions

Will these styles work on a cake topper or Cricut?

The copy-paste text works anywhere text works, but for cutting machines use a proper script font in your design software — Unicode characters are for screens and messages, not vector cutting paths.

Should birthday be capitalised in cursive?

Same rule as print: capitalise both words on a card or banner (Happy Birthday), lowercase mid-sentence. Cursive changes the letterforms, not the grammar.

Which style looks best in a WhatsApp message?

Plain Cursive or Cursive bold — the decorated frames shine in Instagram captions and bios, but in a chat the clean script reads most naturally.

Practise the letters themselves on the cursive alphabet A–Z.
